Dr. Fatima Navas is a highly engaged academic who actively bridges the gap between academia and policy-making through her extensive collaborations with various governmental and intergovernmental bodies.Her expertise is highly valued in the development and implementation of key policies, particularly concerning issues related to the coasts and the sea. She served as a Member of the WG-Indicators and Data of expert advisors of the European Commission, contributing her insights to crucial decisions within the European Union policies for the coastal areas.Furthermore, she acts as an Expert Advisor for the United Nations (UNEP) Mediterranean Action Plan, providing guidance on matters such as the UN Protocol on ICZM for the Mediterranean, the Coastal Area Management Plan (CAMP) Levante de Almeria, and the State of the Environment and development in the Mediterranean of the Barcelona Convention (SoED).Her involvement extends to advising the Andalusian Regional Government on their Strategy for Integrated Coastal Zone Management and serving as a Member of the Inter-Ministries Commission for the Maritime Policy of the European Union, including contributions to initiatives like the "Plan de Plan de Medio Ambiente de Andalucía 2004-2010".Dr. Navas's expertise also informs regional cooperation efforts as an Expert for the "Working Group on Integrated Coastal Zone Management”, within the Spain – External Borders Cross-Border Cooperation Program of the Government of Spain, focusing on the conservation and sustainable use of resources in the Alboran Sea.Her diverse engagements highlight her commitment to translating research into actionable policy recommendations and fostering collaboration between researchers and decision-makers.Through these collaborations, Dr. Fatima Navas demonstrates the practical impact of academic research on real-world challenges, contributing to evidence-based policy development and promoting effective solutions at local, national, and international levels. Her work emphasizes the vital role of informed expertise in shaping policies for a better future.

Dr. Fatima Navas is actively involved in the scientific community, contributing her expertise to various organizations and initiatives.She serves on the Board of Directors and is a Founding Member of BEACHMED, Community for Mediterranean Sustainable Coasts, where she also acts as the Territorial Representative for Spain.Her leadership extends to her role as a Member of the CUTGANA Board of Experts: Centro Universitario per la tutela e la gestione degli ambienti naturali e degli agro-eco-sistemi, demonstrating her recognized expertise in the field.Dr. Navas also contributes to the dissemination of knowledge as a Member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Coastal Research (WoS indexed).She is a Sponsored Associate of the Ulster University and a Lifetime Member and Official Society Member of the Coastal Education & Research Foundation, further highlighting her commitment to advancing her field.

UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT

Dr. Fatima Navas is an experienced university lecturer and researcher who has also made significant contributions to university management. She has held several key academic leadership positions, demonstrating her commitment to fostering a thriving academic environment.Her management roles, all of which are single-person appointments as defined within the University Statutes, include General Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University (a role equivalent to Dean), member of the Doctoral Academic Committee, member of the University Research Committee, and Academic Coordinator of a University Master's programme. These positions reflect her extensive experience and leadership within the university.Furthermore, she has led the Coastal Studies Research Group (RNM-911. Chartered Group of the Andalusian Research, Development and Innovation Plan PAIDI) since its inception.

Dr. Fatima Navas is a dedicated university lecturer and researcher passionate about fostering public understanding and engagement with science. Her work focuses on the study and understanding of coastal areas, doing so from a wide range of angles, from numerical modelling and simulation to Integrated Coastal Zone Management, and she is committed to making complex topics accessible and relevant to a wider audience.She actively engages with the public through various initiatives, including public lectures and workshops. She believes in the importance of two-way communication and strives to create platforms for dialogue and knowledge exchange.
